— COMMON QUESTIONS

You probably want to know…

I just finished Year 12. Is this for me?

Yes. Youth traineeships are designed for school leavers who want a real job + a qualification, instead of jumping straight into uni or working casual.

How is this different from the school-based version?

You're no longer in school. You'll work more hours and earn more, because you're not splitting your week with school anymore.

Can I apply if I didn't finish Year 12?

Absolutely. We work with people from a range of backgrounds. The qualification is what matters, not your ATAR.

What if I want to do uni later?

A Cert III gives you credit towards related uni courses, and the work experience looks great on any application. You're not locking yourself in.

— FOR PARENTS

The questions parents ask us.

Honest answers to the five most common questions from parents and carers,  grades, hours, supervision, welfare and how to reach us.

How does this affect their school grades?

Most school-based traineeships count toward your child's senior certificate (HSC, QCE, SACE, VCE, WACE). We work directly with schools to align release time and ensure study balance. Trainees tell us their grades stay steady — because they're learning time management at the same time.

How many hours a week, really?

A standard placement averages 7.5 paid hours a week, spread across 1–2 shifts. Hours are negotiated to fit around school, exams and life. We never block-book around assessment weeks.

Who supervises them at work?

Every shift is supervised by senior aquatic staff at a BlueFit-run facility. Trainees shadow and assist for the first weeks, then graduate to independent duties under direct line-of-sight supervision.

What about welfare and mental health?

Every trainee is assigned a dedicated welfare consultant for the duration of the traineeship. They check in monthly (more often if needed), connect to school counsellors when relevant, and escalate concerns to a parent immediately if safety is involved.

Who do I call if there is an issue?

Your child's welfare consultant is your first contact — you'll have their direct number from day one. Beyond that, our head office line is staffed business hours and we reply to email within 24 hours.

— we'll get back to you within 48 hrs
